UCSB Materials PhD student Vincent Wu (Clément group) presents on the basics of x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and how it is used in battery research.

Background

I grew up in West Windsor, New Jersey and moved across the country to do my undergrad studies in Berkeley. I enjoyed the west coast so much that I stayed in California to pursue my PhD at Santa Barbara. In my free time, I like to try out new food recipes, play ultimate frisbee, and game with friends. I love open-world sandbox games, but also enjoy competitive MOBAs (even though I need my friends to carry me).

Current Research

I am studying new types of polyanion materials for sodium-ion battery cathodes. Probing these materials with NMR will help elucidate their electrochemical mechanisms and guide better materials design for cathode materials.
